With a background in English Literature, James Spinney has spent the past five years collaborating with Peter Middleton on a range of fiction, documentary and commercial projects. During this period James and Peter adapted the diary of John Hull, an English writer and theologian, into into a series of award winning short films. The first of these, ‘Rainfall’, won the Best Short Documentary Award at Hot Docs 2013 and was nominated for the ICA Experimental Film Award. This was followed in 2014 by the Emmy Award-winning short, also entitled ‘Notes on Blindness’, which screened at Sundance Film Festival and won Best Documentary at Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival.

After 2 years of work we are proud to finally release Notes On Blindness: Into Darkness on Samsung Gear VR. A massive thank you to the interactive makers and the VR community who supported us all the way.
Sheffield Doc/Fest and Curzon Artificial Eye are thrilled to announce a tour across the UK of both the feature film Notes on Blindness as well as the virtual reality experience Notes on Blindness: Into Darkness. From June 24th, this innovative project will for the first time release a virtual reality work in to cinema venues alongside a theatrical film.
